About This Masterclass

The Ultrasound and Complications Masterclass is a CPD certified advanced training programme designed to provide practitioners’ with foundation level understanding and capabilities in the use of ultrasound for aesthetic treatments and the ability to recognise, assess and manage complications in aesthetic practice.

Delivered by Acquisition Aesthetics in collaboration with internationally recognised ultrasound expert Dr MJ Rowland-Warmann, this course provides a deeper understanding of the anatomical and diagnostic principles that underpin safe injectable practice.

While ultrasound is becoming an increasingly valuable diagnostic tool within aesthetics, many practitioners lack the clinical framework required to apply it effectively for patient assessment, treatment planning and execution. Additionally, ultrasound competencies provide a fundamental method of diagnosing and managing complications in aesthetics (including vascular occlusion), which can enhance the safety of procedures and protect patient outcomes. This masterclass focuses on how ultrasound supports patient assessment, treatment planning, safe injecting and the diagnosis and management of complications including ultrasound-guided Hyalase adminstration.

Through expert-led teaching, practical hands-on training in the use of ultrasound and administration of Hyalase, cadaveric anatomy resources and real clinical case discussions, delegates will take the first steps to introducing ultrasound into their aesthetic practice, deepen their understanding of facial anatomy, become competent in the administration of Hyalase in emergency and elective settings and enhance their ability to diagnose and manage complications.

Course Summary

Patient safety sits at the heart of modern aesthetic medicine. As injectable treatments become more advanced, the difference between a routine resolution and a catastrophic outcome relies entirely on your ability to recognise early warning signs, achieve a prompt diagnosis, and execute an immediate intervention. This intensive masterclass bridges the gap between anatomical theory and clinical reality, giving you the practical tools and confidence to introduce ultrasound technology into your daily practice.

Rather than training you to be a technician, the curriculum focuses dynamically on how ultrasound actively supports your clinical decision-making during patient assessment, treatment planning, and acute complication management. Guided by internationally recognised expert Dr MJ Rowland-Warmann – who runs the UK’s only dedicated complications clinic – you will analyse real-world case studies and master high-risk zones using specialised cadaveric prosection resources.

The core of the day features supervised, hands-on exposure using a market leading handheld ultrasound devices for precise patient mapping. You will also build absolute clinical competency through an immersive workshop dedicated to Hyalase reconstitution and administration in both elective and emergency settings, including live ultrasound-guided delivery demonstrations. You will leave with a structured diagnostic framework, a CPD-certified credential, and the advanced skills necessary to protect your patients and elevate your practice safety.

Master the future of patient safety in aesthetic medicine.

Dr MJ is internationally recognised for her expertise in dermal filler complications and the clinical application of facial ultrasound.

Her introduction to aesthetics began early, growing up with a GP mother who began treating patients with botulinum toxin when it was first licensed in the early 2000s. After qualifying as a dentist in 2009, MJ began treating aesthetic patients and quickly developed a passion for non-surgical aesthetic medicine.

She has completed Master’s degrees in Orthodontics and Aesthetic Medicine, and her clinical practice is now dedicated entirely to aesthetics, with a particular focus on managing dermal filler complications using ultrasound.

MJ accepts national and international referrals for complex filler-related cases and runs the UK’s only dedicated complications clinic, making her one of the most experienced clinicians in this field.

She founded the Smileworks Aesthetic HUB with the aim of improving safety standards within the aesthetics industry through better education. Having managed countless complications over the course of her career, she believes that raising clinical standards is essential for the credibility and future of aesthetic medicine.

Today, MJ teaches practitioners across the UK and internationally, sharing her expertise in complication prevention, diagnosis and management.
